I went hiking at Purgatory Creek, located in San Marco, Texas. I entered through the Lower Purgatory trailhead. Below are the exact GPS coordinates for the entrance.

With temperatures in the mid-60s, this made for a pleasant hike. Typically, in Central Texas, the fall doesn’t start until about mid to late October. This area has over 12 miles of trails, so you can hike a lot if you want. I walked about six miles. The trail system is a bit confusing; I recommend using an app that can map your hike. I use Map My Walk, which is made by Under Armour. This app has worked great, and I have used it hundreds of times.
The route I took was mostly flat, but you will go up and down a little bit in a few places. Most of the time, I was on the Dante trail walking towards the Upper Purgatory area. You can click here for a map of the trails.
The conditions were not the best for photography. It is easy to have great colors when it is not cloudy, and you are hiking in the evening. Mostly, it was overcast, so I converted some pictures to black and white and toned them. I also did shoot some shots with a small depth of field. My Nikon 24-70 f2.8G has decent bokeh. I did see a lot of deer, which made for some good pictures. Here are the pics I shot below.
I recommend this trail system since you can walk all you want and the trails are mostly flat.
