I went to Dinosaur Valley state park in August of 2022 and I am now getting around to posting. This park is located about 20 miles SW of Fort Worth, TX. It has a lot of dinosaur tracks and these were made by the Acrocanthosaurus which is a predator and by its prey Sauroposeidon proteles.
The Arcocanthosaurus is a smaller relative of Tyrannosaurus rex. It chased its prey on two legs, was 20 to 30 feet long, and weighed three to five tons. The Sauroposeidon proteles was 70 feet long and 13 feet high at its hip. It weighed 40 to 44 tons. Obviously these dinosaurs were really big. These tracks were made approximately 140 million years ago and this location used to be on the coast. The picture below shows the location of the ocean in this time period.
I was lucky in the fact that the water was low so I could see the tracks. If the water levels are high you can’t see them. This park is also great for hiking, but if you do want to see the tracks you need to go when the water level is low. As always I will post some pictures below. I shot these with my Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 VR and Nikon D850.
Overall I enjoyed this park and if you love ancient history I recommend going.
