The cemetery was established in the 1850’s and Sam Bass is buried here. His grave is located on the West side of the cemetery up against the fence. Sam Bass was a train robber and was killed by Texas Rangers in 1878. His grave is marked with a replacement headstone since collectors ruined the original by chipping off parts and taking them as souvenirs.

I used my Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR to photograph the cemetery, and I shot right before sunset, so the light was excellent. I mostly shot at f/2.8 because I wanted a shallow depth of field. This lens also has great bokeh. I shot both JPEG and raw. For JPEG, I shot Vivid mode at +1 saturation. To save space, I shot JPEG normal size priority and set the raw to 12 bit compressed. Here are some shots I got below:

I am happy with the photos since the light was good, and the shallow depth of field makes the images pop. Having a shallow depth of field is a way to differentiate yourself from smartphone pictures. Since smartphones have a small sensor, they have a lot of depth of field. Smartphone makers do simulate shallow depth of field by using software tricks. However, nothing can make up for having an actual shallow depth of field.
