Recently on December 22nd it got really cold and the low was around 14 degrees. As usual I decided to go walk at around 7 PM that night and wore my new Alpaca socks. When I was out walking it was around 18 degrees. I know I am crazy, but I always like to get my daily walk done.
Alpaca wool comes from the Alpaca which is an animal that is native to South America. A lot of socks are made out of Merino wool which is very fine wool from a sheep. Alpaca is similar to Merino wool but better. The first advantage is that it will absorb less water than the wool. It also is more fine than Merino wool and feels softer on your feet. Also like wool it will keep you warm even when it is damp.
At 18 degrees my feet were warm with the Alpaca socks which was impressive. With my wool socks at that cold I typically wear a couple of pairs, but with the Alpaca I only needed just one pair. I bought the Alpaca socks on Amazon.
Overall I recommend these socks since they fell so soft and are very warm. They are very expensive, but worth it.
